As active Alpha Women we’re constantly seeking ways to optimize our physical and mental health, so when I across the Theragun, I knew I had to try it. The Theragun claims to be reinventing massage for the masses. Sign me up, I thought. I have neither the time nor the money to go to a massage therapist, so this sounds like a great idea.
It was easy for me to decide which Theragun to go for, as there are only 3 on offer, each with a different price point and different product features. I went for the G3. At $399 USD (includes free shipping), the G3 device falls between the smaller traveller size and the “Pro” with all the top-end features.
The tool itself is triangular with the percussive massage knob extending out from the triangle. The G3 feels slightly heavy and rather alarming when first turned on. This is why I do suggest downloading the app before trying to use the device. The app is well done, simple to use and provides specific instructions for using the device, depending on the need or desired outcome.
I also appreciate the effective use of diverse individuals demonstrating the product in the images on the app. Very smart, when they could have made the decision to simply go with pretty people or athletes. It’s important to note that you should keep hair away from the device and never use it above the C4 vertebrae, or around your genitalia. That’s right, it’s not a vibrator.
From what I can tell, other than the above-mentioned areas, the Theragun can be used on almost every other area of the body. My favourites so far are the feet, the small of the back, and in between the shoulder blades. I might get a bit obsessed with using it on my feet to be honest. It feels amazing. And if you can get the pressure right, it’s unparalleled to quickly relieve small of the back tension.
My experience with the higher speed is that it’s is so percussive I have a hard time imagining who would use it other than pro atheletes. Also, I have yet to perfect the use of the Theragun on a few areas where I find the percussion becomes too much, such as on my shoulders but I will persevere. The app mentions that it’s great for cultivating a good nights’ sleep. I’ve been using it for relaxation purposes before bedtime and while I’m not sure I’m sleeping any better yet, I will continue to use it before bedtime as I’m sure it can only help with overall health.
