Take control of your narrative by building your Personal Brand

Share

Nike recently launched a compelling campaign “Dream Crazier” featuring Serena Williams, which got me thinking about how important it is to shout about, share and take charge of your own narrative. As Serena Williams aptly puts it,Getting past those labels, for me, pretty much was really easy because I define myself.”  We are influenced by brands everyday although we don’t always think about or take care of our own personal brand.

Developing a personal brand with intention is something every Alpha Woman needs to take charge of.  The fact is, your personal brand already exists whether you have created it or not – through social media posts, likes, comments; what you wear to work and how you interact with people in your community and workplace. Perhaps you are known as the ‘go to person’ at work, the innovator, the tech guru, the trustworthy friend. Your personal brand is the one thing that will follow you wherever you go so it is important to be thoughtful and purposeful about what you want to be known for.

A well-crafted personal brand is critical for entrepreneurs, freelancers or business owners, but it is equally important for anyone who wants to develop their career, grow their network, build credibility and ultimately stand out from the crowd. As Tom Peters, of Fast Company would say: “We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You.”

Why your personal brand is important:

  • By being more visible you can expand your network and sphere of influence
  • A strong personal brand will build your reputation and confidence
  • It will help you stand out
  • Develop your career
  • Be known as a thought leader

What do you want to be known for?  Have you shared your strengths, your passions, what you can offer and what makes you unique? Take control of your own narrative. Define yourself, define your brand.

Follow AlphaWomanCo to learn more about how you can strategically build your own personal brand.  Over the next few weeks, I will share tips on how to: 1. Leverage social media to build your brand 2. Amplify your personal brand in the workplace 3. Craft your optimal external network by leveraging your personal brand.

At the end of the series, my hope is that you will have the tools to build a personal brand that becomes a strong foundation to support your career evolution.
